Paintings executed in one session are known as 'alla prima' (at first attempt) or 'wet in wet' and hold great value as a painting method. Many of the impressionists used this style and many of my stand alone workshops employ this technique. However, some paintings rely on a different approach which is the basis of this seascape workshop.

This 16 hour course spread over 4 weekly sessions of 4 hours each will employ a method where a more deliberate approach is used. The result is an oil painting full of depth and character which can't be achieved with the alla prima method.

Painting size approx 60cm x 40cm to take home at the end of the course.

ABOUT MICHAEL'S WORKSHOPS & STUDIO:

Located in Charminster, Bournemouth, the studio is a warm and inviting place condusive for a relaxed approach to learning art in all it's forms. The maximum capacity for each workshop is five which enables an easy going atmosphere, important for enjoyable learning.

A studio is the artist's nerve center, a place where ideas and experiments are pushed to their limits to create something new and exciting. Many paintings have been produced here and many lessons learned from the times things didn't work as expected. This is the whole purpose of art, to think, to imagine, to try, to fail and to try again. This is the process we all have to go through to produce something worthwhile.

My workshops are designed to teach the basic principles of various subjects, so you can apply them in your own artistic creations. I share the knowledge and experience of my time as a professional artist, gained from years of experimenting with various methods and techniques.

Learning must be fun and enjoyable otherwise it doesn't work efficiently. All workshops are structured with this in mind, catering for all capabilities and personalities. Workshop themes have been chosen from listening to what people want to learn and of course, any suggestions for additional workshops will be considered.

Please feel free to get in touch with any questions about workshops.
