About Me & My Work

Method & Approach

My paintings are born from a love of being outside in the landscape. Through my work, I seek to capture the experiences of time spent out in the elements. Each painting is an interpretation of these experiences into colour, form, and atmosphere.

Inspirations

I'm greatly inspired by England’s South Coast: the charm of Dorset, the picturesque scenery of Devon, and the wild drama of Cornwall. These landscapes along with the draw of the ocean is what inspires me to paint.

Inspirational Artists

I draw inspiration from a broad spectrum of artists, from expressive impressionists to abstract innovators. Turner, Van Gogh, and Kyffin Williams shape my approach to painting, while sculptors Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, along with Ben Nicholson and Peter Lanyon, have influenced the abstract dimension of my work.

History

Bournemouth is my birthplace and I have lived here all my life, although my artistic soul has a strong pull toward Cornwall which greatly inspires my work, especially when it comes to my seascapes.

One of my favourite subjects at school was art, in which I achieved an 'O' level. Since then I have applied the method of experimentation and learning from experience either good or bad and I teach the same principles in my workshops & courses.

Future

My time as an artist has taken many diversions and afforded me various opportunities. Through time my work has been steered by experimentation with various techniques and materials, opening gateways to new ways of producing my art.

The journey of an artist never ends at a destination. It keeps moving onward, never to settle for too long before continuing in it's endeavour.
